Lingam, yoni, chakra: where those words really come from
Lingam and yoni are Hindu symbols, not sacred names for intimate parts. What they really mean and how they ended up on the menus of massage centres.

We have already established that the term “tantra” is not the most concise when it comes to talking about massages. Well, the terms were not going to be any less. lingam, yoni and chakra.
It is very common that in the erotic massages reference is made to these terms as if they were the sacred names of the intimate parts of the body: specifically the lingam, the male part; the yoni, the female part; and the term chakra is also often used to refer to other energy zones of the body.
Lingam and yoni are symbols of the Hindu tradition, Sanskrit words that have nothing to do with describing massages. They are refined euphemisms used to refer to anatomical parts of the body.
If this has made you want to try it: the tantric massage.
The chakras are better known: they are the symbols given in the Hindu tradition to the energy centres we have in the body. The root chakra is the one located in the lower part of the torso, at the level of the genitals.
This does not mean that the root chakra is related only to sexual energy nor that it is worked on in the tantric massages.
Basically, the Sanskrit names for the genital areas have been taken and incorporated into the massage catalogue.
